ABATTOIR
line up: Steve Gaines (vocals)
Mark Caro (guitar)
Danny Olivero (guitar)
Mel Sanchez (bass)
Danny Amaya (drums)
Abattoir is founded in 1983 in L.A. by Mel Sanchez and guitarplayers Mark Caro
and Juan Garcia. Their first gig is in the 'Troubadour' in L.A. with drummer
'Danger' Wayne and Rawl Preston singing. After a while, the last one is replace
d
by John Cyriis. With this line up a demo is recorded, of which the smashing
"Screams from the Grave" is put on the compilation-LP "Metal Massacre IV". This
results in many fans in the underground-scene, and they get even more thanks to
touring with Armored Saint, Metallica, Girlschool and W.A.S.P. Then Cyriis
leaves the band and starts Agent Steel, Juan Garcia follows him. After a while
working with their first singer Rawl Preston again, Abattoir presents their
debut album in a new line up: drummer Danny Amara, guitarplayer Olivero and
singer Steve Gaines have joined the group. The band says to be influenced by
Iron Maiden, Accept and Motorhead (even an "Ace of Spades"-cover on the debut),
but this first album, "Vicious Attack" is faster and louder. This is less the
case with the second album, recorded after Gaines left the band and went to
Bloodlust, and was replaced by Mike Towers. "The only Safe Place" is less hard.
At the moment it's quiet around Abattoir..
